Which one is the best for me? ETC or FPC
Of course, ETC the evacuated tube collector type is the cheap solution. Flat plate collector type (FPC – solar panel look a like) will cost double than ETC. The functionality of both the systems remains the same. Below, you can find certain factors that may determine which one is good for you.

1. Price
The main factor that determines the price of solar water heaters is the method used in it to transfer the atmospheric temperature. If it uses Evacuated tubes instead of flat plates, then the price will be almost half. Since, any of these two can serve the purpose, the selection depends on your budget.
2. Durability
Both the systems have a good life expectancy. But, the tube type has a high risk of breakage. If something falls over the tube or if you try to fill the empty tank when the tubes were hot, the tubes may blast and it cannot be used at all. Whereas, the FPC (Panel) type, has a glass shield to cover the copper tubes, can perform even the glass is broken. When you consider these factors, the durability will be on the higher side for FPC systems.
3. Maintenance
Both the systems are install and forget type. But, since it is exposed to varying weather conditions, algae may accumulate over the tubes of the ETC type. This may eventually reduce the hot water generation capability. A wet cotton cloth is enough to wipe it out. But, you may have to do it once in a year. FPC type doesn’t have such an issue.
4. Ease of installation
In an FPC model, the panel is slightly heavy. It may be difficult to lift it up to the top and install it. But tubes can be moved one by one and can be installed easily.

The space required for the Installation of eithr of these two types is almost the same.
