Hybrid Solar Electricity System
What is it?
Solar Hybrid Systems puts an end to the major limitation of OFF-Grid / ON-Grid (Grid Tie) systems.
In OFF-Grid systems, excess production cannot be exported to the grid. Meanwhile, ON-Grid systems wont provide back-up during a power failure.
Benefits...
- Most importantly, it allows feeding excess power generated to the GRID
- No need of additional inverter for power Back-up
- “STUDER” inverters can sync with any other Grid – Tie inverter. This will allow easy future up-gradation.
- High efficieny system.
Demerits...
- Expensive
- Permission from the service provider (KSEB) is required to feed power to the grid.
- Limited capacity
Installation...
Solar hybrid systems can be installed similar to other solar power generation systems. It is good to install it as an OFF-GRID system. Subsequently, you can apply for grid connection.
It is possible to apply for the Grid Connectivity at any time. But, always consult the service provider, before starting the installation.
Also, it is worth to identify the correct connected load that has to be connected to the system.
Possible Configurations for Solar Hybrid Systems...
Instance - 1 :
General wiring…
- Grid = Present, Solar = Present
- Conditions – Grid will be powering the load
- Grid charging of battery – Programmable
- Priority charging – Solar Power
Instance - 2 :
Pure OFF-GRID Topology…
- Grid = Absent, Solar = Present
- Conditions – Solar (+ Battery) will be powering the load
- Grid charging of battery – Not Available
Instance - 3 :
Load sharing with Grid Power Topology – With full solar availability…
- Grid = Present, Solar = Present
- Grid power will not be consumed even though the GRID is available
- Complete generation will be diverted to load, post charging of the battery
Instance - 4 :
Load sharing with Grid Power Topology – With partial solar availability…
- Grid = Present, Solar = Present Partially
- Load shares solar and the grid power, thereby reducing the grid utilization
Instance - 5 :
Load sharing with grid power – Topology with full solar availability and partial load demand…
- Grid = Present, Solar = Present
- The excess power generated by solar will be fed back to the grid
Instance - 6 :
Load sharing with grid power – Topology with full solar availability and No Load…
- Grid = Present, Solar = Present
- Export 100% power generated from solar to grid
Instance - 7 :
Priority to renewable energy without grid injection…
Inferences...
Solar Hybrid Systems are the most effective solar electricity generating system. Although, it is the most effective system, there are many questions that has to be answered.
